Cédric Bouchard
Roses de Jeanne La Bolorée Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
First time trying any of the new releases (and new labels 😏) from Bouchard. Starting at the top with the super rare old vine 100% Pinot Blanc Lieu-dit, La Bolorée. 2018 has been an early approachable vintage across many regions, and La Bolorée although obviously young, is plenty giving with some air. It is its texture and density that stand out the most, really such an incredible mouthfeel. Vinous, ultra concentrated and incredibly elegant, a rightful Zalto Burgundy wafts its layers of ripe orchard fruit, citrus oils, bread yeast, white flowers, gun smoke and liquid rock minerality. Its textural palate keeps gaining in volume and intensity, and finishes long with a seamless balance of racy citrusy acids and minerality. To age beautifully, indeed.

Feb 10th, 2023Disgorged 2021. I’ve been extremely fortunate the last few months, having had the opportunity to drink some great champagne. This was the best.
All the descriptors apply; electric, vinous, complex , intense, balance ,finesse, chalky, endless . A liquid massage of the oral cavity because it was so relaxing and enjoyable.

Cedric Bouchard makes some of the most singular, vinous and terroir expressive wines in Champagne which is even taken to the next level in his prized and ultra rare cuvée, La Bolorée. 2015 was a particularly great vintage for Bouchard and every cuvée I’ve tried has been fantastic. La Bolorée, 100% Pinot Blanc from 50+ year-old vines on limestone soils, is powerful, detailed and multidimensional showing layer upon layer of rich orchard fruit, white flowers and salty minerals. Just my 4th time having this bottling, but it is always a special drinking experience. We did not decant, but drank from Zalto Burgundy which somehow didn’t break on a boat 😅

As it often is, the Blanc de Blancs La Bolorée (Pinot Blanc) is the most complete of these Champagnes, and that is saying a lot this year. Quite simply, the 2014 Bolorée is an utterly mesmerizing Champagne. A kaleidoscope of aromas, flavors and textures takes over the senses. Extravagant in its beauty, the Bolorée will thrill readers lucky enough to find it. In tasting, the Bolorée offers a level of richness that recalls Pinot, but with the brightness and focus of Pinot Blanc. Non-dosé. Disgorged: April 2018. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2018)

Apr 24th, 2019Cédric Bouchard makes tiny quantities of single vineyard, single vintage, single grape champagnes in the Côte des Bar. La Bolorée is made from old vine Pinot Blanc planted in 1960. It offers aromas of pear, lemon, licorice, and herbs. On the palate there is a suggestion of crushed gravel and the ripeness of the ‘09 vintage nicely balances the fantastic freshness and acidity. 12.5% ABV. Disgorged April 2013. $145.
