Caymus Vineyards
Suisun Valley Grand Durif
Wonderful Petite Syrah based wine. BIG and powerful but elegant at the same time! Ripe blue/black fruit aromas and flavors. Nose has touches of lilac and chocolate. Hints of vanilla, milk chocolate and toasty oak come through on the long finish. Deep Maroon/Purple color. Underrated varietal and love the fact that the Caymus Team refers to the grape this wine was made from under its traditional name of Duriff.

No subtlety or finesse; not that one could expect this from petite sirah, but I still feel that this was not a typical expression of this grape. Loads of black fruit, spice, and then some hints of tobacco and cacao. I will say, though, that this wine was rather smooth with no harshness. Not my jam, though. 100% Petite Sirah (Durif). 12/25/22.
