Saint-Joseph Syrah

balanced, blueberry, blackberry, spice and touch of vanilla. dry, mid acidity and mid tannin. ABV13.5%

First experience with this co-op. Inexpensive and well made if straightforward style

Disappointing. Palate very flaccid, no acidic structure. Farmyard heavy with loads of plaster and bandaid. Not pleasant.

Afrutado, ligero

Shone dried leaves black cherry nose. Power tannins! White pepper and menthol more prominent in your trap. Chalky lavendar hints. Pleasingly huge and tight. More brutal, less primary than the 2016, oddly. Down a point as the appeal is less universal even though this is more to my taste.

Good stewed prune, tobacco and violets on the nose, soft but present tannin structure, high acid, floral palate with lots of blackberry. Pretty damn good.

Sharp upon opening and then mellowing out into average berries.
