Vin des Seigneurs Valle d'Aosta Mayolet

First #Mayolet #wine I can remember having. Deep crimson color, almost opaque. Austere at opening, funky, earth floor, leather, wet red roses. With time a front to back palate of delicate finishing with cranberry, mild cherry. Straightforward and a little unexciting. Needs food. Opened 12/6/17

Valle d'Aosta #alpine wine, #mayolet, a bracing, transparent red.

2012 vintage. Black plum, violets, bit gamy. Nice tart finish with subtle tannin. Good example of d'Aostan vino.

A gorgeous expression of the region, reminiscent of wild berries and alpine breeze. A nose of candied cherry and chamomile, evolving to clove and cinnamon. Palate is delicate, a subtle expression of fruity liveliness and fresh herbs, leaving you ponderous and refreshed.

Spice. cran, soil, sappy, pepper, touch of bloodiness

Really interesting red from Northern Italy -- the server described it as "alpine" and it really was--tasted like pine trees and bracing mountain air!
