Caterwaul
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Needs more time in the bottle as the wine remains very dense and somewhat closed. Good structure but it needs a bit of time to balance out and really come together.

Over a 3.5 hour period on May 29, my wife and I (along with three kids in tow) had the pleasure of sitting down with Will Segui of Rivers-Marie and winemaker of his personal label William & Mary at the Mending Wall facilities in St. Helena to taste through seven wines from bottle. Will also graciously provided tastings of his 2016 and 2017 William & Mary varietals from barrel.
It took time for this to open...like 4-5 days; dark fruit profile which never really pushed itself to the front; the fruit was more in-line with black licorice, pencil shavings and cigar box all along; the longer the wine was open, the sweeter and softer the tannins became; still an enjoyable, bigger, richer wine that seems to want a few more years laying on its side
