Castell'in Villa
Chianti Classico Sangiovese

Chianti Classico clinic for a bargain entry fee. Raspberry, plum, fennel, leather, licorice, gravel and balsamic herb. Lean, bright, laser-focused. Well-built medium-bodied beauty with all the hallmarks of the terroir. Ample weight with no extra fat. Linear, slow-building dusty tannins and great fruit extraction. A real steal for the price and a textbook example of its type.

This is bangin for the price! Deep cherry tones, raspberry, leather, fennel seed, violets, dust and bitter root. Starting to pick up so bottle age notes like leather and mushroom. Love how pure and put together this is right now. Edges have rounded off, energetic and lively.

First had this overlooking the Chianti hills and went into a trance, but wasn’t sure it would survive being drunk in Murica. I was wrong. Bright, energetic fruit (especially the sour cherry), vibrant fruity and floral aromas, very well integrated. Could go for ages, but the freshness is the best part, so I wouldn’t (and didn’t) hold onto it.

100% Sangiovese.
Deep purplish garnet, compact rim with semi opaque center.
The nose definitely reveals riper, sweeter fruit (tasted alongside similarly priced 2006, and 2010 red Bordeaux) with some evolved characters.
On the palate, the fruit profile shows distinct sunny terroir of Tuscany with lots of sweet ripe fruit (borderline jammy), sun-dried tomato. Med high tannin and med acidity, with med body.
Amazing value (approx $20). Already ready for business. 89.

Drinking well now, classic, elegant and a touch of rustic. So typical, so drinkable and so lovely.

Nice chianti, though not usually our varietal choice. Chose it specifically to pair with rich pizza. Nice balance throughout without much tannic finish.
