Casale Burgio
Sicilia Grillo
Sicily, Italy
Sicilia DOC | Italy 🇮🇹
Overview:
Grillo is Sicily’s signature dry white, a true Mediterranean native that delivers character, texture, and food versatility. Made 100% from the indigenous Grillo grape, this is not a Pinot Grigio stand-in, it’s more expressive, more textured, and unapologetically Sicilian.
Aromas & Flavors:
Citrus-forward with notes of lemon peel, grapefruit, and subtle stone fruit, layered with a distinct saline touch that speaks to Sicily’s coastal influence. Aromatics are lifted and engaging without tipping into overt perfume.
Mouthfeel:
Medium-bodied with noticeable texture and grip, rounder and more structured than Pinot Grigio, yet still fresh and vibrant. There’s a natural balance between richness and acidity that keeps each sip compelling.
Grillo naturally bridges two Sicilian personalities, a) Structure and freshness reminiscent of Cataratto, and b) Aromatic lift associated with Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria), giving the wine both backbone and charm.
Food Pairings:
This is where Grillo truly shines. Ideal with Mediterranean cuisine: grilled seafood, anchovies, citrus-marinated fish, caponata, pasta alle vongole, or herb-driven vegetable dishes. 👉 Not a patio pounder, this wine wants food.
Verdict:
An adventurous Sicilian white for drinkers looking beyond the usual suspects. Textural, saline, and gastronomic, Grillo is a rewarding choice for those craving something fresh yet distinctive from Sicily.
Did You Know?
Grillo was historically used in Marsala production, but modern vinification has revealed its true strength as a serious, dry, terroir-driven white wine.

Total Wine. I didn’t really like this one! Thought it would have more peach aroma per label but had 0. Will not buy again
