Casa Marin
Miramar Vineyard Syrah
Oh María Luz you are a rockstar. I lovingly carried this bottle back from my first trip to Chile, having been bowled over by this fierce female winemaking pioneer who runs Casa Marin with her son. From the chilliest part of San Antonio Valley, a stone’s throw from the sea, Luz’s wine shimmer with acidity and vibrate with energy. At 12 years of age this Syrah is absolutely singing with gorgeous green olive salinity backed by blackberry bramble, dried herbs, white pepper and dried currants. Fantastic acidity and faint tannins make this an utterly effortless mouthful. I wish I had another bottle. Or five.

Jul 10th, 2015If you were expecting a fruit forward new world expression of Syrah when you opened this bottle you would be in for a shock. Instead this is a dense brooding beast of a wine with more than a nod to N. Rhone. Meaty and vegetative aromas hit you hard into a dry lingering slightly peppery finish. Lovely stuff - More please Chile!
