BBQ & Zin night!

Intoxicating bouquet. Boysenberry, clove, baked mixed berry pie and roasted plum. Small hint of oak but it’s not dominant. Love the aromatics here. It’s powerful without being heavy. The palate shows ripe red, blue and black fruit with sandalwood and a gumminess...I know that’s odd, but the notes aren’t heavy enough to be purely fruit driven. Blackberry jam for just a touch at the finish and then it softens before becoming an overly jammy wine. Power and finesse here. Wonderful.

Mike Officer wanted to create a blend that represents the 3 unique old vine vineyards in the Piner-Olivet crossing of the Russian River Valley. This is the first vintage and what a success. This is just insanely good and represents everything there is to love in RR zin. A field blend of everything from all 3 vineyards it’s rich and lush, full of black fruits but balanced by acidity and never heavy and not clocking above 15%. A real show of great terroir, old vines, and fine winemaking.

Simpler and shallower than other Carlisle’s, therefore it is overpriced. Seems like it is made without much intervention but showing little interest so the material must be not that interesting.

Incredible Zin. Fruit forward with lush berries on the front tongue and then earth, tobacco and leather on the back end. Terrific and complex on its own and well paired with meats and cheeses. NYE 2022.

Really lovely Russian River Zin. Not a heavy weighty Zin. Presents with ripe dark fruit fruit and cherries prominent. Baking spice on finish. Not overly jammy. RR Zin at its best.
