First night, shy and alluring for a Carlisle; 2nd night; an amazing balanced black fruit beauty…wish we have saved more for night 2

Apr 22nd, 2022Nose reminds me of an Old Fashioned cocktail. On the palette, the primary fruit has mostly faded to an umami richness of licorice, juicy steak, and a drop of whiskey with orange zest. Med acid and tannin. Quite enjoyable, but for my taste I prefer younger, fruity Zins. Follow up: apparently this vineyard produces dark, brooding, un-fruity Zins.

Feb 21st, 2021Probably WOTN for me. VERY approachable 2013 with some sweet fruit front of raspberry and red cherry. Not a heavier zin by far, and almost tastes like an aged pinot by the palate profile, but the nose is definitely zin. Finishes with a lot of youth. This one has a huge aging potential. I don't think this one will start going until 2022 or so with proper cellaring. Very impressed by this Carlisle Zin. OMG, QUITE hedonistic.
