2012 vintage This is the pinnacle of historic California red wine. Aging much like a Cabernet. Sad that most Zin has been pulled from Napa.

Persistent pepper and plum. Sadly, The next to last village in which Mike Officer had access to this vineyard.

Overripe and just not up to this wineries standard. Very disappointing wine from arguably the best Zin vineyard in the world also probably the worst Carlisle Zin I have had to date.

Definitely an elegant zin. Great red fruits on the palate. Incredibly fresh and young. Not a hot or jammy zin. Well balanced. Cedar, small touch of vanilla, and kirsch notes. No doubt a great zin!

Another great Weekly Wine Committee in the books, this time hosted by Dan. Format stayed the same (1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds, 1 dessert wine) and everything is guessed blind.

This has me day dreaming about what Russell Bevan's Hayne Vineyard zin from Chase Cellars tastes like! Loved the body on this...not overly jammy, but not super restrained. Peppercorn, currant, plum, blackberries.

Nice Zin but thin compared to other vintages as expected with the 2011 vintage. Drink now not going to improve much.

Pretty light in its feet given the 16% abv. Well balanced and the heat isn’t noticeable surprisingly.

This has come together but it’s not settled down yet. Exuberant alcohol, acid, and tannins, which nicely juxtapose the expectedly ripe fruit.

Moderate ruby. The nose is a bit subdued but offers sweet red cherry, brambly berries, pine, and cloves as it unwinds. The palate is dense and rich with cherry liqueur and menthol culminating in a long, spicy finish. It’s full bodied with silky tannins, 15.8% alcohol, and reasonably balanced acidity considering the ripeness. Sourced from head trained vines planted in 1903 with interplanted Petite Sirah, Trousseau, and Peloursin included for color and complexity then aged in 23% new French oak. Nice pairing with homemade pork barbecue sandwiches. This is a fine example of the quality wine that can be made from Zinfandel in California but unfortunately the last vintage Carlisle will bottle from this historic vineyard. SRP $50.

The final vintage of the Hayne bottling for Carlisle. 113 year-old vines were the source of this 300 case production effort. The finish is longer than the last 2 minutes of an NBA game! 😂
