Solid Cab no matter the occasion. Worth the asking price though? The jury is still out on that one.

This is a serious wine but it took a while to reach this decision-2 days of breathing in a closed decanter. 2012 Cape Mentelle Cabernet 2012 (AUD 91); 91% cabernet with drizzles of franc, merlot, verdot. Screwcaps do strange things: in this case tighten the wine up to be un-expressive; was lovely fruit, balanced ripeness and oak fruition; just so simple without tannin dryness opened fresh. On breathing a little oxidation (that word!) teased out the dryness and weight 14.5%; #margaretriver #structure #drinkearly ; clearly sold to drink now, future aging is of interest??

Ripe but racy. Layers will unfold with air

Surprisingly upfront for current release - great structure - huge markup in the restaurant but knocked back by $80 to the Zin price which had sold out - pretty happy

Margaret River Cabernet Benchmarking! Three big guns shone through! #FilthyNowVino Cape Mentelle at $75 was poised and layered. Cullen Diana Magdelaine had an extra edge of personality & intrigue. Miss Wood a great core of fruit, looked a little ragged today. Time should help it settle into it's skin. At about $25 the Hayshed Hill was the value wine in the pack. Ringbolts and Vasse Felix wines had a angularity and hardness about them. #CabernetSauvignon #Wine #MargaretRiver

This is a nice, complex wine. Mint, black pepper, rubber, and dandelion greens on the nose but dark chocolate and tart cherry on the palate. It just continues to evolve.

Cocoa, deep fruit but not overly ripe, slight bay leaf to add balance. Wonderful trade lunch and big thanks to Cameron Murphy.

Lovely nose of black currant, plums, violets and butterscotch. The tight acidity and youthful tannin structures creates harmony in the mouthfeel between the fruit and fresh molasses on the finish.
