Celebrating my 400th region on Delectable with a wine from New Mexico made by Merkin Vineyards owned by Rock Musician, Maynard Keenan who is also the Winemaker. I always thought that it would be too hot to make wine in NM but there is a large Diurnal Temperature variation with the desert influence. This wine had a strange oxidative note to begin with but after 2 hours had disappeared. Rustic notes of charcoal and a touch of wild strawberry. An eclectic Italian blend of Dolcetto Primitivo Refosco ( a new grape on me!), Sangiovese and Montepuliciano. Interesting.

Merkin?! Shinola?! A blend of 5 Italian grapes made in New Mexico?!?! None of these things would lead one to believe you're in for a good drink. But you are. Might be the most surprising wine ever. Delicious.

Pretty decent for a wine named after a pubic wig. Got it on sale for $12 at Toucan's. The first of Maynard's wines I've tried. SWW grapes from Hoachita Vineyard in boot heel of NM. Tannic, very fruity.

Found these Merkin Vineyards gems on the south side. This one a great #winecenturyclub bottle with Sangiovese, Dolcetto, Montepulciano, Primitivo, and Refosco. Decent light bodied red table wine :) #yegwine
