1 person found it helpfulFeb 26th, 2016Beautiful ruby in color with a wide purplish /red rim.
Fruity on the nose with blackberries, cherries, raspberries, light oak, licorice, leather, green notes, earth, herbs and black pepper.
Medium plus in body, with medium plus acidity and nice legs.
Tart on the attack, and on the palate, raspberries, tart cherries, cranberries, pomegranates, light wood, earth, tobacco, licorice, mint, cloves, graphite and peppercorn.
Medium finish with round tannins and sour raspberries.
This Napa Merlot is not a typical one at all. Unbalanced and not very complex. Drinkable by itself, but better with food and a bit rough around the edges.
Not one for long term aging, but an additional year or two in the bottle would probably help here.
Up to the 2010 vintage, this wine received good reviews, but this vintage is a little disappointing, though.
100% Merlot grapes from Howell Mountain.

I pulled into the driveway of this winery in Napa a few years back on a lark. A few days ago, I saw this bottle at Bondi in Bed Stuy and bought it remembering the excellent tasting that knocked more famous wineries low. Burgess is cut into a hillside on Howell Mountain and is one of the older privately owned wineries in Napa. This bottle is ready to drink. Blackberry, espresso, and herbaceous notes of anise and mint. Full-bodied and a steal at the $21 I paid for it.

Mar 8th, 2016I don't normally like Merlot but the man at the liquor store swore I'd like it and I have to say-yummy!
