Bulgariana
Thracian Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
A beautiful, gentle ruby/ brick in color with a light brick/ orange rim.
On the nose, raspberries, plums, unripe cherries, cranberries, light wood, light vanilla, licorice, herbs, spices, alcohol and peppercorn.
Medium-bodied with high acidity, smooth and elegant, with nice legs.
Tart on the palate with plums, sour cherries, pomagranates, strawberries, oak, green olives, light vanilla, leather, licorice, vegetables and black pepper.
Medium plus on the finish, with fine, round tannins, spices and tart cranberries.
A nice cabernet from the Thrace an Valley in Bulgaria.
Seems like it past its peak and probably better when fresh.
A bit unbalanced and not too good to be had by itself. Better with food, though.
It has more of a South American light Syrah feel, then old world Cabernet. Needed one hour to open up. Grapes are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
89 Wine Enthusiast.
14% alcohol by volume.

A pleasant surprise from Bulgaria. Not a big wine and if I didn't know better, I would have called it a cool climate cab done right. Tannins are light and pleasantly approachable. Cherry, menthol, raspberry. Nice finish. Could see this being agreeable to a wide range of wine drinkers.

Dec 10th, 2022Bulgariana Thracian Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015: Hit or miss? A great find or not? Is price always the indicator of quality? Wine is very subjective & personal but in my eyes, this was a hidden treasure. I found this wine during a work trip to Bethesda, Maryland at a corner liquor store across the street from my hotel. It was medium-bodied, smooth and very flavorful. Light tannins and layers of red fruits. A pleasant surprise from Bulgaria. Cheers🍷
