Brüder Dr. Becker
Sekt Extra Trocken Scheurebe Blend
Quite creamy and a little sweet with very fine bubbles, this bottle from ECOCERT certified German winery Bruder Dr. Becker is an interesting alternative to your standard bubbly. Organically farmed Scheurebe (a grape created in 1916 by hybridizing Riesling with an unknown wild vine!) from two different vineyards – one sandy soil and one limestone – is given the methode champenoise treatment after a good dose of south-facing Rhine sunshine. Lychee, orange blossom and pear come to mind but there's toasty notes and a little grapefruit as well. Persistent bubbles and a balanced, clean palate. Prosecco lovers in particular my want to give this a spin. Try with vegetable pakora or spiced pork sausages.
