The 2018 Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso is a force to be reckoned with. Here I’m finding an intense and savory display, as aromas of plum sauce and red currants give way to balsamic spice, smoky minerals and purple-tinged florals. It’s velvety with medium-bodied textures, ushering in ripe blackberry fruit, as cooling minerals and herbal tones add further lift. Hints of baker’s chocolate and medicinal cherry linger, along with residual acids that frame the expression perfectly. Only just shy of an Amarone in depth, the 2018 Ripasso is flat-out stunning. A blend of 40% Corvinone, 30% Corvina, 15% Rondinella, remained indigenous grapes derived from 18-acre vineyard, grapes dried for several months using appassimento method. Ruby with with aromas of dried fruits with pepper and smoky spice notes. On the palate ripe blackberry and cherry flavors, savory, with citrus, tobacco & cacao. Soft ripe tannins, chewy on long finish ending with a juicy fruit and oak spice character.

Congratulations Luca! Law school coming right up! And this ripasso actually tastes great. Not coincidental, I’m sure.

High quality Ripasso. Apassimento character really shines in well balanced, long finishing wine. Really well made. Bright fruit such as pomegranate and red cherry. with plenty of spice, prune, and sultana character.

Exquisite! Excellent for the money. What Napa Cabernet could be if not so jammy!

Smooth and easy but not lacking body. Great with light fare or on its own.
