Essential Red Old Vine California Red Blend

This wine is quite dark and quite aromatic. The nose would be fruit-forward if the oak spices weren’t so strident. The big display shows dark fruit - plum, blackberry and black currant - carried along by a huge whiff of clove, cedar, tobacco, cardamom and several other occupants of the spice rack, I’m sure. The palate is similarly blessed, or handicapped, depending on your own view of oak treatment. The oak in this wine is heavy-handed and best suited for blunt-force trauma. That is disappointing, since I have long been a fan of Bogle’s wines. I’ll stick with their other offerings in the future.

2014 vintage. Black cherries and spices. Easy drinking, less rustic tannin than the 2013 vintage.

Let it breath a little bit. It starts out dry and kind or boring, but after 10 minutes it opened up and sweetened up a bit with a little fruit. It could easily be an everyday drinker.

I'm not a massive zin fan but this old vine zin red blend makes me rethink my life choices. It's great on the nose, and has a unique oakyness. On the lips the juice unravels to display a slightly dry berryness with heavy cherry and blackberry notes. It lingers for a moment with a light coco flavor and goes dry at the very end.
Bravo.

It's a good $10 bottle for those nights you have guests over that could care less what they drink and you want to drink something decent.

Nice medium bodied Blend. It's a keeper!

One of the smoothest blends I've had. Used a decanter so it could breathe and it lightened up the taste. Slightly fruity with little tannins. Would definitely get again.
