Boeckel
Wiebelsberg Riesling
For me (though perhaps not for others) this is at its apogee. Rich nose has petrol and deep, bitter honey, dried apples and apricot. Some botrytis for sure. Dry, rich, and, to my taste, very slightly oxidative, nice acids and a long, earthy finish that shows honeyed fruit, liquid minerals, and even a bit of mushroom.

Aug 22nd, 2022Last bottle of this, and it’s most definitely at its peak. Explosive nose of petrol, ripe bruised apple, spice. The color is deep gold and the “bruised” quality of the fruit shows that oxidation is just peeking through, but really good. Intense and mouthfilling, dry but with loads of fruit, the finish is long and features intense acidity. Drink up very soon and enjoy!

Oct 30th, 2021Superb example of Alsace. Nose has the freshest lemon-lime zest, petrol- and crushed rock-scented minerality, and the faintest note of cinnamon. Dense and mouthfilling but levitated with ridiculous acids. Long-ass finish that is so juicy (to borrow a Lyle Fass-ism). Love it.
