Bodegas Maurodos San Román 2013 D.O. Not yet released, but getting labeled today at the winery. Serious, slightly brooding at this time, lots of black fruits at the moment. #gos2016

Rich Tempranillo dark fruits with a touch of leather, smokiness and tobacco. Would love to rate this higher, but I find this wine to be overripe to the point of tasting somewhat raisin-like, so it reminds me more of Amarone than a Spanish Tempranillo. Had this same feeling with some previous vintages as well.

Very deep opaque crimson. Medium plus bodied, with luscious legs. Bouquet of stewed red fruits, red licorice, a wax overtone, white pepper. Mainly dark cherry persists on the palate. Very grippy tannins with medium acidity. Apparently, this can be held for a little while longer. This is a great Tinto!

Perfect body. Smooth. Slightly sourish. Fruity with wood taste.

Day 2. Normally a favorite of mine, but this vintage underwhelms. American oak usage comes off heavy handed with charred wood, vanilla, and secondary dark berry fruit aromas. Fruit and oak tannins surround the palate. Big, juicy dark fruits permeate on the palate, but oak use lingers on the finish. Bone dry tannin. Has the tannin and structure to age, and possibly give time for better integration of oak and fruit.
