Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, plums, cherries, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, metals, vegetables, coke and light tobacco.

Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and nice legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, sweet cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, spices, earth, espresso, peppercorn, leather, vegetables, tobacco, chocolates, light bell pepper and bitter herbs.

Long finish with round tannins and spices.

This Monastrell from Jumilla is always enjoyable. Showing nice complexity and earthy notes with lots of fruits. Well balanced and good by itself or with food. Peaking now, with a great mouthfeel, spicy and chewy.

I paired it with Spanish tapas.

Aged in French oak barrels.

15% alcohol by volume.

I don't drink that many under $15 bottles, but Juan Gil's Silver Label Monastrell is one that still excites me to try when I see a new vintage. Starts with a rich perfume of dark fruit, vanilla, and smoked oak, with some secondary baking spice and cocoa powder. Similar to the nose, the palate shows more polish and complexity than I expected. At times it ventures into syrupy territory, but is never heavy or cloying.

Deep purple in color with a light purple rim.

On the nose cherries, sweet plums, green pepper, earth, peppermint, leather, wet leaves, vanilla, wood, spices, peppercorn, acetone, tobacco and herbs.

Full bodied with medium acidity and nice long legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, strawberries, currants, vanilla, licorice, earth, spices, peppercorn, leather, oak, pencil lead, light vegetables, coffee, chocolates and tobacco.

Medium plus on the finish with firm tannins and black pepper.

A very enjoyable Monastrell from Spain. Good right out of the bottle, and better as it opens up, with earthy notes, tannins and a pleasant mouthfeel. Balanced with nice complexity.

Good by itself or with food. Drinking very nicely now, and can benefit from a few years in the bottle.

Nice wine. A little musk put the women off a bit.

Meh. Expected more. Fruit is there, but weight is thin.
