100% Tempranillo, deep Ruby with aromas of stewed fruits, coffee and earthy notes. On the palate flavors of overripe plums and currants with leather and earthy forest floor notes. Wild acidity, harsh tannins, short finish ending with earthy fruit and oaky notes. Not a Fav, would pass on this one!

When in the tropics, I guess best to buy Spanish, and young. Not sitting around on the mercado shelves too long. Decent, wet, some wood, and one note. And that’s ok, when you re looking out onto the Pacific & seeing whales. This was drunk at an eco lodge called El Paraiso near Las Galeras, on the Samana Peninsula, in DR

Had a ‘13 still in cellar, grabbed a pizza and grabbed this bottle.. Ruby red with aromas of ripe red berry fruit with herb pepper spice. On the palate, the wine shows ripe tart cherries and strawberries with vanilla, leather and stewed fruits, aged for 10 months on American oak. Medium finish ending with earthy leafy notes and needs to be consumed soon, otherwise will be past it’s prime.

Pale chartreuse color. Vibrant citrus and orchard fruit scents are complemented by suggestions of jasmine, green tea and chalky minerals. Fresh and incisive on the palate, offering nervy lime, green apple and quince flavors that deepen slowly on the back half and pick up hints of melon and white peach. Plays depth off of energy smoothly and finishes long, dry and precise, with a refreshingly bitter citrus pith note lingering. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, February 2019)

In the mid 1800s, Eleuterio Martinez Arzok established himself as a producer and merchant of wines from the Rioja region. He started by selling his wines direct from the barrel. Dark red with berry fruit aromas and toasty spice. Tart cherry flavors with pepper and oak notes. Hard tannins that need some calming. Even though this is a drink now wine, it needs time, but for $10, open the bottle about 2 hours before consumption.

Really tasty goes good with pasta. Also a great wine to have by itself. A little chilled as well does the trick.

A true Rioja. Smoke, leather, fruit, nice balance and very drinkable. Quality stuff
