Dark crimson with a ruby core and a wide brim. Looks like Tempranillo, smells like Tempranillo but there’s something else going on here too. The nose shows some pretty evolved fruit for being so young, with blackberry jam and ripe cherries initially. The fruit doesn’t linger very long here as some really nice floral notes take over. Violets and delicate white flowers with an exciting burst of lavender. After plenty of time in the glass, there’s a touch of oak and coffee bean.
Tasting blind, I probably would’ve called this as a Tempranillo but these firm tannins are just screaming Chianti at me. Despite the youthfulness, this is balanced and drinking nicely at the moment. After the initial explosion of red fruit in the mouth, dried herbs and black pepper take hold on the nimble palate. The faintest suggestion of new leather on the medium long finish. Really delicious stuff, especially for the price range.

We are at Casa Villa Verde a private all inclusive 5 bedroom home on the beach in Puerto Vallarta. Excellent Rioja served with pescado huachinango zarandeado . Simply Fantastico!
