Bodegas Bernabeleva
Navaherreros Garnacha de Bernabeleva
Madrid, Spain

Another nice Garnacha from Gredos. This one fully mature and on the riper side for that region. Nose has kirsch and dried cherry, nice clean stony minerality, and a little souk spice note. Has that nice transparency and balance you get from here, but in a larger-bodied format. Minerally on the finish with a little chalky tannin still hanging around.

Smells a little of those candied cigarettes or the baseball card stick back in the day..
Starts of as a little lighter style of Grenache, until the grape skins kick in - then the onslaught of basil, hay, licorice, with a unripe raspberry and some bitter Eastern European plum.
A bold sipper, in that there is much to talk about, especially while chewing on the acidity.
Wine from Madrid., a city I hope to see again..

Rustic, earthy, spice driven Garnacha with lighter extract and focused frame. Spiced red berries and apple skin, muddled cherry, potpourri, brett (clove, barnyard), black rocks, damp cellar. Really enjoy the palate. There’s significant VA and some oxidative notes (nuttiness) that bite into its aromatic character. Structurally gorgeous, linear, great dimension of tannin and acidity, lengthy and spiced from front to back.

What an awesome nose. Reminds me of other natural garnachas I’ve had. Bright funky cranberry and gamey notes. Delicate spice, lovely purity on the palate with some nice staunch tannins. Lip smacking juicy fruit. Funky but not overtly so.

Jul 5th, 2018Fruity up front, almost sweet on the tip of my tongue. Medium body. Vibrant acidity(although this might be because I was sick the past few days). Bright cherry, dramatic spice. Not bad. Kind of run of the mill but good for happy hour.
