One of my fave vintages of Merlot from BMV. Rich, juicy blackberry, black cherry, tobacco, hints of leather, subtle violet, and just a whisper of forest floor and pine. Soft and smooth as silk.

Dec 7th, 2015Tannins are still pulling heavy even after 6 years. This is rough on all edges. Brett dominates. Pine bark, pine sap, cedar, steaming mulch, charred tobacco, heavy doses of tar, and of course some bandaid action. Almost reminds me of a toasted everything bagel too. Fruit stays behind with notes of sour black cherries and wild elderberries. Herbaceous touch of bay leaf on the nose and palate. Red bell pepper stays distinctive on the finish. Austere in nature due to its high acidity and low fruit. Little awkward on the mid palate. Reminds me of old school French, right bank Bordeaux. Not for someone used to heavily extracted and jammy styles. I'm kind of digging it, but it's off balance; too much brett.
