Galen Glen

Stone Cellar Grüner Veltliner 2014

Another quality example of an Austrian varietal coming out of Galen Glen. Drinking from my Zwiesel 1872 glass; fitting for this delicate beast. They have this dialed in to almost perfection. Yellow apple, tangerine, and green pear are ushered in by chervil and white pepper. The palate is covered in honeyed lime, flint, saline, and shale slabs. Mouth feel holds true to citrus oil. It’s acidity literally cleans everything up and leaves your tongue tingling. Finish keeps on giving you more to contemplate. Terrior driven for sure. If you’re ever in the area, a must vineyard to visit.

Vynecrest Winery

No. 38 Lehigh Valley Lemberger Blend 2015

Solar eclipse 🌘 Got some brett going on here with some salted pretzel shell. Charred blackberries and cigar ash on the nose and finish. "Old World" in nature, but oozes smoked vanilla. 60% Lemberger, 25% Merlot, and 15% Cabernet Franc. Cheers to everyone here on planet earth!

Blue Mountain Vineyards

Merlot 2011

Tannins are still pulling heavy even after 6 years. This is rough on all edges. Brett dominates. Pine bark, pine sap, cedar, steaming mulch, charred tobacco, heavy doses of tar, and of course some bandaid action. Almost reminds me of a toasted everything bagel too. Fruit stays behind with notes of sour black cherries and wild elderberries. Herbaceous touch of bay leaf on the nose and palate. Red bell pepper stays distinctive on the finish. Austere in nature due to its high acidity and low fruit. Little awkward on the mid palate. Reminds me of old school French, right bank Bordeaux. Not for someone used to heavily extracted and jammy styles. I'm kind of digging it, but it's off balance; too much brett.

Tolino Vineyards

Cabernet Franc 2014

True expression of the varietal; sour cherries, red chili peppers, bell peppers, black pepper, soaked gravel and bunches of dried herbs. Old world in style, but sturdy notes of leather, clay and clustered mountain mint make this unique. Acidity attacks the palate and leaves you craving for food. Tannins are fine grained and persistent. Cab Franc has moved in...

Lilly White Blend 2015

Stone fruit with an attractive minerality of wet gravel. Clean, balanced, and sleek textural weight. Intriguing honeysuckle and orange blossom hovers on the bouquet and palate. Finishes slightly sweet for a nice attack on spicy foods. Great effort here. Pinot Grigio and Vidal Blanc. 13% alcohol #pennsylvania — 7 years ago
