Stellar, feminine and beautifully layered. Strawberry compote and clouds of cassis. Fell off after about 90 mins would not decant this.

09’Blankiet Paradise Hills Vineyard
Mostly Cabernet. Theses last 8 vintage or so always have a certain elegance to them. Which I find very appealing. The 2009 is very close to a PNP. Just pull the cork an hour prior to serving. A few prime years left.

Bright deep red color still. Black raspberry, black plum skins, licorice, violets. Seamless finish to this wine. One of my least favorite vintages of the decade. This truly does shine.

A few wines from last week’s 4th Friday event!

Fantastic! I think this is getting close to hitting a prime window (for those who enjoy a balance of fruit and secondary notes). Freshly squeezed blackberries, black currant, mulberries, and a touch of herbs de Provence upfront on a decidedly juicy profile. Dark cocoa, sweet tobacco and baked mixed berry pie notes.

Beautiful, stylish, very well made. Not a style I usually go for, but this was aligned just right. Sexy, rich, concentrated and filled with defined layers that melded very well. Such a strong vintage here.

An absolutely stunning lunch from @joe leatherwood today. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 5 reds and 1 dessert wine. All served blind.

You know you are living right when this wine is probably number five out of five reds on the table. Sounds like a slight, but with two old vintages of Insignia, older Masseto, and older Haut Brion, that’s stiff competition. Compared to those other four reds, there was more sweet fruit here. Dark fruit has softened to more of a black cherry medley, but the red fruit is still nicely tart and youthful. I picked up licorice and juicy blackberries here, both of which took me to South America for my guess. Not much herbal or secondary notes here...impressive fruit at 17yrs.

Loads of fruit! Would have never guessed it was 17yrs old. Fruit isn’t quite stewed but definitely overripe; mainly dark (blackberry, blueberry) and lots of sweet pipe tobacco. It’s beginning to channel a touch of leather to show some age.

The 2015 Proprietary Red is a model of total elegance and finesse. Lifted and aromatically expressive, but also quite deep, the 2015 is another wine that is surprisingly fresh and vibrant. Aromatically expressive and nuanced, the 2015 is silky and plush on the palate, yet also remains remarkably tight on its feet. This is one of the most exquisitely beautiful, riveting wines I have tasted from Claude and Katherine Blankiet. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2018)

Not a rough edge to be found. Superb. Could smell the nose all day. This is a hybrid of Bordeaux and Napa. Dark and flavorful fruits on the nose. Mainly cassis, blackberries and plum. Soft on the palate. Leafy, ripe blackberries and stems. If you have this, drink now!
