Blackbird Vineyards
Arise Proprietary Napa Valley Merlot Blend

I’m a big fan of Pott’s Saint Helena cab, so I was very excited to taste one from his own operation.
This right bank blend displays terrific nose of ripe blackberry, raspberry, cedar, fermented black tea leaf, anise, wet forest floor, and hint of menthol and vanilla. On the palate I think the weakness of the 2011 vintage shows up, though flavorful but flat and a bit too tart. Finely grained tannins.

Definitely California. Open with strong licorice and fig flavors that faded into ripe spicy fruit. Not much tannins or acid to speak of which sort of took away from the structure. Very tasty, just falls a little flat in the long run.

Jan 30th, 2020Napa nose leaping from the glass. Palate and finish the same. Soft tannins, lush mouthfeel. Yum. It is Tuesday, after all. Why not?
