End of an era. Last bottle of these gems that I stashed away many years ago, never knowing it would be the last vintage of this wine. Obviously Bird in Hand makes bigger bucks from its sparkling, which is where the fruit now ends up. Fourteen years old and still in good shape. The nose is in full secondary mode with a combination of dried fruit (fig, cranberry, raisin) plus an animal note — perhaps barnyard or dried meat. Palate carries some primary fruit (dark cherry and plum) with a dustiness to finish. Medium bodied with a surprising weight to it. I’ve never encountered Adelaide Hills pinot quite like it, and sadly it seems I never will again. I’m happy to have had the chance!

Cracking good Adelaide Hills pinot. So different from most. Plush and broad with subtly spiced plum and cherry. Right time to drink - one more bottle left and won’t be keeping it a lot longer.

Apparently they only ever made one vintage of this pinot. Now the fruit goes into their sparkling whites. Idiots. This is great pinot! It's big - a lot more weight than most Aussie pinots. Spice and concentrated fruit on the palate. Still youthful even at this age. Lovely.
