The perfect wine before a Tool concert. Distinctly intense and so harmonious.

Jul 16th, 2015A deep, inky purple in the glass, almost impenetrable. Decanted for an hour and it was necessary for this to truly blossom. The fruit on the nose attacks first but doesn’t last long. The red berries soon give way to a nice bit of smoke and menthol. The warm spices here are just so nice. Some plums begin to emerge little by little and then dried herbs take over. Seriously, it’s so dang pretty.
A blend of 50% Syrah from Monterey County and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon from Santa Ynez County. More full bodied than medium bodied, this is just a delight to drink. In it’s prime drinking window now, there’s an energy here that’s instantly apparent. Bright acidity and liveliness in the glass. The Cabernet takes the lead in this dance but doesn’t overwhelm, while the Syrah accompanies well. Black fruits and spice star on the palate with spice playing the backup role quite nicely. There’s a definite elegance about this wine that I wasn’t quite expecting, but it’s very welcome.
