This isn’t a Grenache, it is a Grenache dominant blend. On the nose, faint wet stone and wild strawberry notes are the first thing I notice. After that, hints of fig, baking spices and tobacco are all pleasing nuances. On the palate, the wine is still jammy, fruit forward, succulent (2013 was a hot year). The Grenache is still the dominant flavor, with heaps of strawberry and white pepper notes. The Syrah and other varietals fill in the gaps though; this is not a one dimensional wine and hints of darker stone fruit, cured meat, and raspberry show up after the swallow. Yum!

Well, if Counoise is supposed to add a spiciness to blends, then it's working. Some funk to start that fades, plus black pepper, smoke, sage and herbs de Provence, cherry, blackberry.

Needs an hour. Comes off like a more hearty version of Beaujolais. Strawberries and cream, lemon zest, powdered cocoa, with some earth, underbrush, and herbs that fade in and out.
