Bernard Burgaud
Côte-Rôtie Syrah
I love 21. Utterly classic but young nose of red berries, granite and a youthful grapiness. Some florals as well but a bit of a monolith aromatically out of the gates. More notes later as it opens up on the nose. Palate is so elegant my goodness and has that youthful grapiness. Huge red and darker berry fruit, perfect balance, clarity and purity. So juicy and clean but young but obviously very high quality. More notes as it evolves. Nose now closed at 3 hours but palate has gained finesse and it’s ultra juicy and pure. Finish is clipped but this is the whole package. This has a semi opulent midpalate one can get lost in. Wow. Incredible decadent Pomerol (lafleur?) fruit. Just insane. So elegant. This is the best Burgaud ever.

Oct 24th, 2020Nose starts out tight. Then blossoms into deep berry fruit, game, smoked meats, florals, smoke, leather, so complex. So classic. Palate is super serious and super young but has wonderful balance, freshness and depth. I just popped this and it is perfect to follow along for the rest of the day. Really great energy and freshness and expanding mid palate of berry fruit is developing. Awesome texture and concentration while having a substantial refined yet there tannic backbone. Why Burgaud ages so well. Long finish. I’ll update as it airs.
Now after 5-6 hours of air this is really coming into its own. So olivey and floral. Stunning blueberry. Game. Meat. Just gorgeous. Palate is full of fruit, freshness and finesse. Gorgeous sappiness and terrific acidity. A baby but what a wine.

Dec 19th, 2019Deep purple with medium intensity, developing aromas of grilled meat, smoke, blackberry, black pepper, mint, tar and forest floor. Dry, medium (+) acidity, medium tannins, medium (+) body, medium alcohol (13.5%).
Well-integrated flavors of blackberry, black plum, tar, mint, forest floor, black olive. Medium (+) finish. Very good quality - drink now but has potential for aging. Very approachable.

Wow. Super wow. What a nose. Stunning. Haunting. Elegant. Ethereal. Pungent. Floral. Game. Feral. Meaty. Amazing precision. Just ridiculous. How can a wine this great be only $60! Côte Rotie is such a value. Wow. Palate is stacked like the best 15’s can be. So juicy and structured. What poise, precision and balance. Some wood peeking out but that is expected of young Burgaud. Stunning depth, focus and purity. What finesse. It’s big, it’s rich but it’s also elegant, light and finesse driven, with a stunning, drop you in your tracks granite finish. Wow. Echoes on the palate forever. Just keeps giving more and more. Huge depth, power and concentration but comes off as so refined and pretty. Wow. Just achingly beautiful. What a wine.
