Amazing freshness, tasting a lot more Spatelese than Kab. Lots of still-pristine, but very concentrated white stone fruit, sweet Thai basil and Phô greens play together with this nougat-esque nutty quality. Jasmine-lemon custard. White tea jelly. Suggestions of cold-smoked meatiness abide, but are never aggressively realized. Zero botrytis. I wish everything from the 90s I tasted was half as pristine as this. Lord knows how aggressively it might have been sulphured, but if this is wrong, I don't want to be right.

51-year-old Mosel BA from the red-slate "Spice Garden" — and it held. Honeyed botrytis, dried apricot, beeswax, a flicker of petrol, and still that racy Mosel acidity cutting through the sweetness. The geology (volcanic red slate and ironstone) gives an exotic spiciness that younger BAs from flatter sites can't match.
