Ripe, bright; dark cherries, cherries, strawberries, heavily extracted pomegranate, cranberry juice, light dark spices, vanilla, red vines, a touch of steeped tea, bright red florals, touch of smoke, dark soil, dry crushed rocks, high acid and round, rich finish. 2016 open 2023. Mint and sage on the nose. A light taste of cherry cola on the front of the tongue that transitions into a light tannic structure. A quick burst of spicy high notes on the mid palate, with a brief menthol finish. This is pretty typical for Santa Cruz Pinots whose sugars are squelched by the summer fog. However, I don’t want to damn this wine with faint praise — its good qualities are subtle, but it’s pleasant to drink. However, it fades as it opens up.
