Bass Phillip
Crown Prince Gippsland Pinot Noir
See previous notes from a few months ago in early July. This was Bass Phillip’s entry level Cuvée but under new owner, Jacques Fourrier it will be retired and the new entry level Pinot will be Bin 17K going forward. This had lovely fresh red fruited aromatics of cherry and strawberry

Sep 19th, 2021This is Bass Phillip’s entry level Cuvée of about 5 different Cuvées. Pale Ruby with cloudiness from BP’s policy of bottling unfiltered. Jujube confectionery notes with savoury cherry and forest floor. Light to medium weight palate, made to be drunk young. The fruit for this wine comes from the major part of the Leongatha vineyard (where the Estate, Premium and Reserve Pinots come from). Even though this is a different vintage to previous notes on Delectable for Crown Prince the tasting notes are similar.

Jul 3rd, 2021A cloudy Ruby red as you often get with unfiltered Bass Phillip Pinots. However it makes for a wine of profound palate intensity - amazing as it is the 5th ranked Pinot Noir Cuvée from Bass Phillip. Red fruits and forest floor - decayed plant matter. Made to be drunk up to 5 years of age but could go on up to 8 years if desired.

Jun 4th, 2021Pale to mid crimson and a little cloudy - a characteristic one used to see occasionally in Bass Phillip as they are bottled unfiltered which adds to the flavour intensity. A beautiful perfume of whole bunch notes, sous bois and a touch of toffee. Amazing intensity for Bass Phillip’s 5th ranked Pinot Noir cuvée. Sweet and savoury fruits. Delivers more fruit on the palate than one would expect from the nose. For short term drinking but still delivers the Bass Phillip stamp of quality.

Mar 29th, 2020Aromas of red cherry, middle eastern spices and a touch of incense Barb thought. On palate red berry sappy notes with cherry. Overall a wonderful young Pinot originally designed to be drunk young but this has enough acid and fruit weight to go another 5 years. Amazing that this is considered to be the 5th or 6th best cuvée in any given vintage by.Bass Phillip.

Feb 13th, 2020Intensity without weight. Excellent Wine for Bass Phillip’s 5th ranked Pinot Noir. Aromatic notes of red cherry and mineral with stalks and ginger showing a % of whole bunch. Silky smooth tannins. A delicious wine well made whichever way you look at it.

Aug 26th, 2018Slightly cloudy as one used to get occasionally with BP but less so these days. This is the entry level or close to with Old Cellar from approximately 5 or 6 Cuvées of Pinot Noir. Aromas of potting mix, strawberry and savoury berry fruits carrying through to the palate with earthy flavours. Good intensity on the palate as always with Bass Phillip. Cellar up to 5 years.

May 30th, 2018Bass Phillips entry level Pinot Noir. Juicy primary fruits still with enough Pinosity to qualify as a BP made wine. Some compost and forest floor combining with the cherry aromas. Short term very good drinking for a village wine.

Nov 10th, 2016The 2013 vintage of Crown Prince - the 4th or 5th ranked Pinot Noir from Bass Phillip. An excellent vintage showing palate staining intensity from the terroir and close planting regime adopted by Phillip Jones. Notes of dusty sour plum with incredible palate length. Class written all over it.

May 1st, 2016Amazing quality for Bass Phillips entry level Pinot Noir. Nose with cherry/damp earth notes. Carrying thru to sour cherry on the palate. Good Pinot by any standards. 2010 vintage. Tasted again 29 January 2016. Notes as above. Always a pleasure to drink a Bass Phillip Pinot even if it is their 4th or 5th best cuvée.
