Barreri & Rovati
Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo
Drank 1/6/19. Nice pairing with Lasagna Bolognese.
Trader Joe's Value buy.
Nose of violets, wildflowers, and cherry. Cherry, leather and dusty earth backed by firm, drying tannins. The fruit on the finish finish fades a bit quickly, leaving dry tannic notes that last 30+ seconds. Pleasant, but nothing super impressive. Still, one of the better Trader Joe's bottles I've had.
Re-visited on day 3, and more floral notes do emerge, a long with some tilled soil. Tannins seem better integrated. This may improve a point or so with a couple of years.
3/21/7/3/4 + 50 =88 pts.

Aug 19th, 2019Good wine. Full bodied but I was expecting more flavors.

Jun 30th, 2019I usually don’t say much about the bottle because it is just that, a glass bottle. But, in aesthetics, this one is truly unique and stands out. Royal blue accents with a deep gold label, it’s palatial.
Let’s find out what it tastes like.
The bouquet is a resounding cherry pie and charcoal. It is subtle and distinct at once.
The first sip burst into my mouth like a thousand pepper harboons waving hello.
As the taste buds relax, this settles in to a nice black cherry quality. It’s nicely astringent towards the end of a long, felt sip.
Robust juiciness at the forefront that runs its pepper jam flavor throughout and ends with a welcome bittnerness.
Overall, closer to a Nebbiolo, not the best Barolo I’ve had (definitely did not have the traditional amber coloring), but also not the worst.
A solid expression of Barolo at $20 (TJ)
