Really hoped for more; opened after being very surprised with the Barbaresco but knowing if that was at its prime, we needed to get that baseline! Notes of violets and vanilla; bright cranberry and cherry wood with elegance throughout. Not great for the vintage/varietal…but splendid for the price

Drank 1/6/19. Nice pairing with Lasagna Bolognese.

Trader Joe's Value buy.

Nose of violets, wildflowers, and cherry. Cherry, leather and dusty earth backed by firm, drying tannins. The fruit on the finish finish fades a bit quickly, leaving dry tannic notes that last 30+ seconds. Pleasant, but nothing super impressive. Still, one of the better Trader Joe's bottles I've had.

Re-visited on day 3, and more floral notes do emerge, a long with some tilled soil. Tannins seem better integrated. This may improve a point or so with a couple of years.

3/21/7/3/4 + 50 =88 pts.

Didn't like the first sip. Very dry and full of tannens. It opened up nicely and with a dry but with a clean robust finish

2017 vintage. Musty sandalwood shavings in the nose. Light-medium body. Some bright dark cherry leaping from the mid-palate into the finish and dragging some cedar, tar, baking chocolate and earth along for the ride. Frontal palate not much to speak of but things accelerate quickly once past that. The back-end structure ends up being in all the wrong places (under the tongue, frontal gums, very front of the roof of the mouth) and eschewing the usual, desired destinations. Popped and poured so perhaps things morph after an hour or so…but likely not. Picked up at Trader Joe’s for just under $20 USD. Decent for the price but unlikely to pick up again. If it is still there and available at the same price in 6 months, I’ll roll the dice again. Otherwise, I’ll take a pass. 8.11.24.

2016 vintage. PNP. Decent nose. Light-medium body. Bit of oak afoot early on. Gets minimized fairly quickly and moves on to acidity and tannins along with unexpected balance. Some rose petal prettiness. Some earth. Good balance. Not the most, nor the least, structured. Should be able to handle a 15-spot without too much bother. Solid value and drinking well now. 11.28.23.
