Fragrant with plummy fruit with a whiff of macerated prune, spice, and warm moist loam. Soft and mouthfilling, it’s got nice balance and is a very easy-drinking, food-friendly rendition. Drink now

Remarkably fresh, the 2020 Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso bursts from the glass with a mix of crushed cherries of mint, giving way to a cascade of violet florals. This is silky smooth and round, with juicy acidity and depths of crisp wild berry fruits underscored by tactile mineral tones. The 2020 cleans up beautifully—long and crunchy, with a coating of fine tannins that nicely frame the experience as rosy inner florals slowly fade. The Ripasso spends two weeks resting on the lees of an Amarone fermentation, followed by one year in concrete and one year in large-format neutral oak. (Eric Guido, Vinous, February 2024)

The 2017 Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso is spicy and wickedly fresh with crushed raspberries, cloves and sweet rose tones. This is silky-smooth and elegant, with a mineral tinge that adds a salty edge to its intense tart red berries, giving way to clove. It is generous yet motivated by stunning acidity, tapering off long and staining, leaving autumnal spice and sweet tannin. The warmth of the 2017 vintage brought production down by 22%, yet it imparted the Ripasso with a sexy, if immediate, style. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

A nicely-structured and balanced Ripasso. Not too big and porty. Nose has dried cherry. A bit old barrel scents, and some pungent moist earth. Nicely linear in the mouth, with some good transparency in the straight-arrow finish. Even a little stony minerality and soft tannin in the finish. A joy to drink with dinner.

Earth and raisins on the nose. Mint note. Distracting spritz. Pruney flavors. Made from partially dried grapes. Really tart.

What a fun region! Lots of leather, cherries, and warm sweet spices with a hint of lavender.

Note the beat Valpolicella Ripaso I’ve had but it’s drinkable.

Pretty mild ripasso. Not very raisin, but moderate length.
