Colli Orientali del Friuli Schioppettino

New producer to me
Apparently he has been a benchmark for pignolo and schioppettino for a long time
Wine style is big
Wines get released after many years depending when he thinks they are ready
The schioppettino gave me the best impression
Fruit, spices(coriander seeds and white pepper) and a bit of incense
You keep swirling you will get more and more
Very long
Hard to find and a bit pricey

2004 Schioppettino. It was on this wine, my fiancée and I shared our first 'real' date. It was on this bottle of wine, that we recently shared our engagement and her birthday. No need, but the bottle is still so damn good, and unlike any other red wine I've had. And that's sayin' somethin'.

First taste of schioppettino, partying like it's 1999. Don't know what to compare this to; tiny hint of red fruit, herbs, lots of body with subtle acidity that brought olives and cooked tomatoes to mind. Amazing.

Simply fantastic! 16%? No wonder Parker loved it! Was a perfect match to my lamb "porterhouse", rich, extracted, cooked plums and baking spice make it hard to imagine this come from Friuli.
