Well-executed example of the more modern, super-ripe, plush Zin style. Not a style I am crazy about in general, but this one is not over-the-top. Nose has juicy blackberry, a bit of maple syrup, and some sandestony gravel. Plush and deeply fruity, but within bounds, keeping some balance throughout the long finish. Not super complex, but very nice.

Feb 8th, 2020Terrific old vine Zin. No jamminess. Lots of pure spicy blackberry and gravelly notes in the nose. Palate really lets the gravelly minerality shine through. Good acids and a clingy finish. Outstanding!

At a perfect age, and a study in the use of oak. Ripe, but brambly, with great acid and resolved tannins. Beautiful Zinfandel, which complimented steaks in all the right ways.

Well, brother, I’m sorry you wasted this on me. You obviously thought highly of it. There was some lovely fruit. Unfortunately it was obscured by the obnoxious oak. A carpenter’s delight.
