Arnot-Roberts
Clary Ranch Syrah
Running towards the end of its window, some lovely pepper and smoke, and that great minerality that A-R always show.

2011: Singing. Among the best Calfornia syrahs I’ve had.
2012: Closed right now. Will wait a year and try again.
2013: Young, feisty, peppery. Needs more time.

Translucent purple with aromas of plum, lavender, and mint as well as herbal notes from stem inclusion. Flavorful but weightless with only 12% alcohol. Lovely now and unencumbered by excessive ripeness, extraction, or oak influence but will certainly improve as tannin and stem elements integrate.

Sep 3rd, 2018Not showing much the first night. But late on the second, it opened beautifully with burnt caramel under blue fruits. All it needs is patience.

Aug 19th, 2018Savory and succulent, pepper and black fruits. Nothing complex here but very solid well made wine in a challenging vintage.

Jun 24th, 2018Maybe a touch thinner, less brash than other years, but still fun.

Apr 30th, 2018I'm so impressed by the complexity in this for such a young wine. How often do you hear CA syrahs being compared to N. Rhone? Way too much right? Well, how many CA syrahs out there are cold climate, coming in at 12.0%, and bringing the funk? This starts interesting with a soft fruit nod and then ends with an earthy funk punch. Could potentially be a dead ringer for a fine St. Joseph with another 7-8 years.
