Tonight's wine is from the Southern Hemisphere. I have opened the 2013 Apaltagua Reserva Carmenere Apaltagua Valley Estate Grown Colchagua, Chile.
There are aromas of raspberry puree, sour cherries, green peppercorn, herbaceousness and granite minerality.
The palate gives me red raspberry, sour cherry, lots of green bell pepper and herbaceous notes, fennel, minerality and light oak.
I get a medium to light mouth feel. Medium tannins, medium acidity. Light on the front end builds on the mid palate then really loses something on the backend.
Not a terrible wine. If you like the green notes of the bell pepper and herbaceousness, which I do, this is for you. If it weren't for these types of palate pleasing notes my score would be a lot lower.
Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷
