Spectacular expression of deep red and black fruit, a touch of anise & silky chocolate finish.

May 18th, 2017Fantastic grenache from John Alban. Vanessa gives it a 9.8. I’m not quite as enthusiastic...but only to the extent of a 0.2 difference! This is an incredibly unctuous wine with layers of blackberry liquor, graphite, dark chocolate, and a hint of violet. Full bodied on the palate with a lingering finish. John makes a much more highly extracted version of grenache than the more elegant style of Manfred at SQN - my own palate for grenache tends more toward the SQN style - but there’s no denying that this is incredible and will only get better with a few more years in the cellar.

Apr 8th, 2020Opened this 2 days ago. It was good then...but it’s SO much better now. No extraordinary measures for storage: put the cork back in and put it in the fridge. Fantastic balance, layers of flavor, and a finish that goes on forever. If you have this in your cellar, let it sit for 3-4 years. Otherwise, decant it for 6 hours and then enjoy. Awesome.
