We went from Walla Walla to Sicily. I love these minerally earthy wines from Mount Edna. Nerello Mascalese is the grape. Medium body, soft tannin structure. A bit funky which made it connect really well with the truffle flavored cheese and a Jamaican jerk spiced cheese.

A Nerello mascalese from the slopes of Mnt Edna in Sicily. Easy drinking light red wine full of intrigue. Earthy mineral undertones integrated with dry raspberry and red berries.

We finished the week with Another wine from the Al cantara winery at the foot of Mount Etna in Sicily. This was an easy drinking red fruit forward wine with a nice mineral edge minimal minimal body and finish.

Vibrant red/dark fruit with black cherry and plum upfront and over time developed into a complex earthy mineral wine with great finish.

2014 vintage. Lots of red fruit, orange cest, spices and wild fruit on the nose. Powerful tannins, high acidity. Light body. Wild cherries (lots), almond, a hint of fennel, flint, minerals. This is a great nerello but it needs some food to smooth out tannins.
