I love when you unintentionally come across totally palate-blowing wine and food matches. The latest to add to the list is Kalamata olives marinated in oil and balsamic with this new release 3drops 2018 Great Southern Chardonnay.

I had already wrote my tasting note for the wine and then I had a few olives as I was cooking while finishing off my glass of wine and wow 💥 the two went beautifully. The strong olive taste really mellowed out the acidity and made the fruit shine.

As mentioned this is a brand new release from the 3drops team. From it’s pale lemon colour to aromas of peach, honeydew melon and vanilla, it captured my attention before I even sipped it! The bright acidity on the palate suggests this one will age well over the next few years - alongside drinking right here and now too 😉

A big thanks to Jo from 3drops for sending this sample over.

PS: How cool are our wine-y olive forks we got from some lovely friends 😍

Sadly I missed UnWined Subiaco in Perth this year so to soothe my sorrows I indulged in this bottle of delectable 3drops 2017 Chardonnay from WA’s Great Southern Wine Region.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3drops is family owned and operated and alongside making delicious wines they also make some super tasty olive oil. The team have recently swooped up a ton of awards at the various wine shows however it’s the Chardy that captures my taste buds 😋
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the glass it’s a cool yellow shade. Elegant notes of butter, vanilla custard, peach/nectarine and orange citrus rise from the glass. Mr Spittoon’s comment: “I could sniff this all night”. In the mouth it’s got a nice full, rounded mouth feel with pear tart, vanilla bean, subtle melon and wonderfully fresh acidity on the finish. More please!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thanks so much Jo for sending over this scrumptious sample for me to taste 😘

The owner, Joanne Bradbury, of 3 Drops Wine & Olive Oil from WA’s Great Southern Wine Region completed a half marathon in Beirut, Lebanon on the weekend - so I thought it would be a great time to crack into this sample of their 2016 Chardonnay with Mr. Spittoon.

As most of you probably know, I’m a big fan of Chardonnay (https://travellingcorkscrew.com.au/blog/guide-to-chardonnay/) and I strongly believe you need to give every Chardy a chance as they come in all styles and tastes.

This golden hued wine from 3 Drops is made of grapes from vines planted in 1982. It spends some time in French oak to give it enough time to develop a silky texture yet it’s not overpowering. It has lovely intricate layers of acidity and fresh fruit (think peach, nectarine and spiced pears). I also got a hint of butterscotch on the nose which really buttered me up for what was to come 😜

It’s a summery golden colour in the glass. The nose is absolutely intoxicating, think toasty French oak, creamy tropical yoghurt and a hint of micro herbs. In the mouth juicy stone fruit and refreshing citrus acidity come through. It has a wonderful soft and supple mouthfeel with a tasty lingering finish. The only problem with this bottle is that there’s not enough in the bottle!

⚡️New Release ⚡️

Introducing the newly released 2016 Chardonnay from 3 Drops in WA's Great Southern region. This Chardy spends 8 months in French oak and retails for approximately $25 per bottle.

It's a light sunrise 🌅 yellow colour in the glass. Notes of vanilla bean, rubber, spiced pear 🍐 and slightly toasted pineapple 🍍 come through on the nose for me. While on the palate it has a subtle lick of oak and fresh & vibrant acidity with notes of vanilla infused pears and citrus (mandarin/orange 🍊). Looking 👀 forward to seeing how this on develops!

The more I taste from WA's Great Southern region, the more I fall grape-ly in love with it 🍇❤️ 3 Drops stands for three of life's precious liquids - wine, olive oil and water. These guys make some stunning wines and their olive oil is amazing too!

The 2013 Chardonnay is a bright clear yellow shade on the eye with buttered corn, nectarine and lime on the nose. It has a very tropical palate with hints of nutty biscuits. The mouthfeel is nearly oil-like covering every millimetre of your taste buds and it has a beautiful savouring long finish. It's one of those tipples you could sip on all night long with some handsome company by your side 😜

A big thanks to 3 Drops for this sample bottle!
