Kallos Retsina

100% Assyrtiko from Macedonia spontaneously fermented and aged 5 months on fine lees in used French barriques, with only a touch (5%) of single origin Aleppo fir resin.
A very modern interpretation of Retsina.
On the nose this is fresh, sappy with lime, lemon, a touch of fennel, Mastixa and some dried herbs. Crisp, clean, enticing.
On the palate this has some rounded, some creaminess, you can taste the Assyrtiko in barrel. But is rays fresh, precise and pure. Love the flow, the juicy acidity and the long saline finish.
This is absolutely beautiful & delicious!
What a delightful discovery!

Ich war einfach brutal neugierig. Noch nie hab‘ich einen Retsina getrunken…warum sollte ich auch? Der rest der welt macht auch coole weine. Allerdings eine sendung eines MW bei der Degu dieses weines gesehen und wie er ihn bewertet hat. Ok…dann bestell ich mal 2 flaschen. WOW!! Das hab ich echt nicht erwartet. Kein hauch von süsse. Eher als zwitter zwischen sherry und orange angesiedelt. Orangenschalen, kernobst, weiss-bis gelbblütig, hauch mandeln, tief, lang, komplex. Immer auf der leicht animalischen seite…aber eben…kein orange. Irgendwas dazwischen. Und verdammt gut. Zum preis von knapp 25 euro!!
