Being 100% Tempranillo grapes, I figured this Rioja would pack more spice but alas, 'twas not to be for me and my selections this evening. It's got mild spice, tobacco, and leather, but if I enjoyed mild, I would've stuck with my ex. It's only after immense but subtle pressure from my wine buddies that I'm even leaving Italy for these lesser regions.
