“Grand Chaliot” is actually a lieu-dit in Nuits-Saint-Georges and more singular expression compared to their “standard” Bourgogne. Popped and poured, enjoyed over two hours. The Grand Chaliot pours a dark ruby, with a translucent core. Medium viscosity. Medium+ intensity. On the nose, the initial impression is a bit like a dusty barnyard…with black cherry and blackberry preserves. There’s a bit of a purple “Now & Laters” thing too. Kinda fun actually. On the palate, the fruit is darker profiled than most; quite in-line with Lignier’s style. Lovely minerals with a touch of forest floor too. Lovely acid (medium+) and fairy pronounced tannin too! Finish is dry and has a bitterness that reminded me of walnut skin. I adore these wines.
