Big, blousy and extroverted, the 2017 ‘Mule Blanche’, a white Crozes-Hermitage in the Jaboulet portfolio, is a wine that I’m sure will appeal to some tastes but certainly not mine. Chock full of marzipan and baked orange notes, this strayed too far on the side of weight and lost any sense of finesse. I enjoy the heavier styles of white from the northern Rhône, be it Condrieu, St. Joseph or Hermitage, but this just didn’t really cut it.
