The 2011 Brut Special Club is superb, especially within the context of this very challenging harvest. Brisk, precise and wonderfully nuanced, the 2011 has so much to offer. Bright saline underpinnings and lively acids push a core of citrus fruit forward. The 2011 is a bit nervy and lithe. I wouldn’t push my luck on aging, but boy is it beautiful today. Disgorged: February, 2019. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2020)

Special club 2011 by Gaston Chiquet, good producer, very bad year. Surprise they even did special club bottlings that year. You can tell by the lack of intensity and lenght that this was a vintage ruined by rain in champagne, but gaston makes a very charming cuvee with an super creamy mousse and super fresh and Young despite being deg17 and of a lesser vintage.

This wine is always one of the best values in Champagne and a classic expression of the region. 2011 isn’t quite at the level of 2000, 2002, 2006 or 2008 but will improve with a few more years of bottle age and is still better than most champagnes at the price point.
